A quick clip of some church bells at the wedding......another one of those quintessentially English sounds & sights that you realise you haven't heard in a long time.
We are lucky people. Not only do we have this opportunity to come and live in Vancouver but we have loads of lovely family & great friends that we want to share stuff with.

Craig & Mia's Wedding
After our night in the Cotswolds and a subsequent night at Adrian parents in Bicester and a night at Davids mothers in Peterborough we moved onto Leicestershire for our second wedding of the visit.
We were there for the wedding of Craig and Mia. Craig is an old family friend of Davids and they grew up together being only three weeks different in age. Craig proposed to Mia while in Canada and it was great that we were able to attend their wedding while we were back in the UK.
The wedding was held in Mias home village of Great Glen, near Leicester.
David was unexpectedly the best-man due to a last minute let-down by the original best man. David however was superb at standing in and doing an outstanding speach with only 48 hours notice.
Assembling outside the church after the ceremony
The reception was held at a private school in Great Glen that Mias father is the headmaster of. A large marquee was erected in the grounds.
Here are Craig and Mia cutting the cake (which incidently was an amazing combination of chocolate cake below a rich chocolate torte all covered in white chocolate). The cake was actually the desert to the dinner (the cake cutting & speaches were done before the dinner).
Adrian and Lin, who is Craigs step-mother.
The first dance
The deserts being served to the top table. At the back in the centre is Craig, then David then Christine (Mias step-mother), Roger (Craigs father) and then Lin again in the blue.
The ladies, Maureen, Jackie, Sue and Lin
The wedding went beautifully and we wish Craig & Mia every happiness together.

Cotswolds
Coln St Aldwyns
After an all too brief visit to Adrians sister in the Lake District we headed to the Cotswolds, about a 5.5hr drive south from the Lake District and half an hour or so west of Oxford.
We were meeting some friends who had moved back to the UK from Canada and decided to stay in a country inn that was also good for dinner so that we could catch up and not have to drive anywhere. We settled on the New Inn at Coln St Aldwyns.
Our room was in the Dovecote to the rear of the inn.
Back on the patio after a walk around the village (see next post). It was definately 6 o'clock somewhere.

Whitehaven
The nearest town of any size to Karens village is Whitehaven. It is a sleepy fishing town which is seeing some rejuvination and has just enjoyed a full renovation of the harbour area.
These are some views around the harbour as the sun sets
Then we had an excellent meal at a english style tapas restaurant called Zest.
The Lord Nelson tallship in the harbour
The start of the Coast to Coast cycle route is marked here.

St Bees
Lake District - Ennerdale Water
Two days after the wedding Karen, Andy, David and I walked alongside Ennerdale Water. It had been our intention to walk the entire length and back but at our lunch stop it was clear the weather was turning and we would be best to turn back.

Lake District - Derwent Water
Lake District - Keswick
We arrived two days before the wedding, so took the opportunity to do a little sightseeing shortly after arriving.
We walked along the old railway track that is now designated a cycle route in the town of Keswick. The cycle route roughly follows the path of the river.
Views back across the edge of the town
New A66 road bridge built in 1997
Adrian about to stop for his first taste of Cheese & Onion crisps in 2 years !
More river views
Now back into town the main street is pedestrianised and is centred around The Moot Hall.
More Keswick street scenes showing the beautiful stone & slate buildings
Can it get any more English ? Lawn Bowls
