The Charlevoix Region

Our hotel for the next two nights was the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in La Malbaie which enjoyed a commanding location overlooking the St Lawrence River.

This is a view of the terrace and river beyond

This was our room. It was a good size and perfectly comfortable, but definately needed an interior design make-over, there were so many different patterns.... the wallpaper, chair & ottoman, the bench, carpet, bed spread and finally bed skirt were all completely different. I guess being an expensive hotel doesn't necessarily make it tasteful !

On the plus side though, this was the fabulous view from our room. It's blurred because the photo was taken through the bug screen, but gives you a feel for the great location.

David outside the hotel

So we headed off into the country where the roads were quiet

Many vistas of rolling hills and farmland

Note the snow mobile in this farmers yard, these were not an uncommon sight in the rural parts of Quebec and a reminder of how long & cold the winters are here

More country views

View of the village Notre Dame des Morits in the hills to the North of La Malbaie

Some great autumn colours

More rural views

Cows on a farm, the trees here a mix of yellows and greens

A snapshot of Saint Urbain, a small village a few miles north of Baie Saint-Paul where we were heading for the afternoon.

More colourful foliage

I loved this tree.....it manages to go all the way from green to red and every shade of yellow and orange in between.
